Two weeks later found the happy newlyweds back in the city. Buz had become so absorbed in the plans for the North Side church that leaving the project was difficult. Furthermore, he had accepted the offer of apprentice to the firm of Cohen Associates, Inc., established in a downtown office. Having weighed the alternatives, he had elected to remain in Pittsburgh. At the conclusion of their apprenticeship, he and his college buddy, Steve Cameron, planned to establish their own firm.

Mike DeSantis was to be the third member of the anticipated firm. Mike had graduated one semester ahead of Buz and Steve, and had already attracted a considerable clientele with a model displayed in the utilities office of East McKeesport. Using tiny panels of glass for the upper half of the one-story edifice and pebbles to represent the stone masonry of the lower half, he had created a scale model of his proposed design that drew prospective clients from many miles to scrutinize. And regardless of how one slept, one should awaken to a feeling of vibrancy. Undecided between royal blue or brilliant red, she chose to combine the hues in shades of orchid and magenta. The lighter shades would make suitable selection for the walls, and the more vivid solely for accent. After all, she did not wish to keep Buz awake!

Not considering herself too deft with the paintbrush and roller, she was nevertheless undaunted in her enthusiasm and plied the tools with exuberance. And with each stroke she thrilled to the new life she was instilling into her new home. At the end of her first day of labor, she painted a large heart with “Love ya, Buz,” enclosed within on a wall that remained yet to be done. And, cleaning her implements for
